Uniforms
Parents/Caregivers, staff and students have been extensively consulted in formulating the school’s Dress Code and regular reviews are undertaken. The wearing of the school uniform is compulsory in all government schools in order to:
- promote safety
- project a positive personal and public image
- foster team spirit
- equity and preparation for life (as many work places have dress and safety codes).
Primary School
Boys: royal blue shorts (minimum mid-thigh length), school shirt with school logo, school jacket with school logo (all available through the Uniform Shop) OR any royal blue polo-style shirt. A wide-brimmed hat is preferred. Sandals or closed in shoes are compulsory.
Girls: royal blue shorts or skorts (minimum mid-thigh length), school shirt with school logo, school jacket with school logo (all available through the Uniform Shop) OR any royal blue polo-style shirt. A blue-checked dress can be worn. A wide-brimmed hat is preferred. Sandals or closed in shoes are compulsory.
Secondary School
Boys: shorts (minimum mid-thigh length) or pants in navy blue, school shirt with school logo, school jacket with school logo (all available through the Uniform Shop). A wide-brimmed hat is preferred. Closed in shoes are compulsory.
Girls: shorts (minimum mid-thigh length), pants or skirt in navy blue, school shirt with school logo, school jacket with school logo (all available through the Uniform Shop). A wide-brimmed hat is preferred. Closed in shoes are compulsory.
Kindy, Pre-Primary and Primary School uniform items are available through the front office between the hours of 7:30am – 3:00pm. Senior School uniforms are available through Student Services. Payment methods excepted include cash, cheque and EFTPOS.
Special Event/Activity/Cohort Shirts
The following shirts are also considered to be accepted as part of the school dress code:
- Year 6 Graduation Shirt.
- Senior School Graduation/Leavers Shirt.
- Student Councillor Shirt.
- Kimberley Cup Shirt.
- Football Program Shirt.
- East Kimberley Football Academy Shirt.
- Follow the Dream Shirt.
- Kimberley Education For Life (KEFL) Uniform.
- Faction Colour Shirt (Athletics/Sports Carnivals).

Non-Approved Clothing
If a student comes dressed for school in non-approved clothing items they may be required to wear a school-provided alternative for the school day. Alternatively, a parent/caregiver may be contacted and asked to bring clothing that conforms with the school’s dress code.
The following items are not approved nor acceptable as part of the East Kimberley College Dress Code (Pre-primary – Year 12)
- Denim.
- Tight and/or shoe-string strap tops.
- Logos on shirts (other than the school logo and/or approved logo on shirts mentioned above).
- Shorts of an inappropriate length. Minimum length: Knee length (School Council decision 2009).
- Skirts of an inappropriate length. Minimum length: Knee length (School Council decision 2009).
- Pants, shorts and skirts that reveal underwear.
- Patterned shorts and shorts that are not in school colours (e.g. board shorts – unless navy blue/black).
- Thongs, strapless sandals and/or bare feet (Year 1 – Year 12) (School Council decision 2010). Closed in footwear, or sandals with an ankle strap are to be worn each school day.
- Wearing of any make-up by students in K-6. (School Council decision 2010).
The school will implement the following steps to ensure that all students meet the minimum dress requirements as outlined in the School Dress Code:
- Provide students with alternative clothing that conforms to the approved Dress Code to wear for the school day (shirts and shorts may be available in some sizes).
- Parents/Caregivers of the student will be contacted to discuss need for compliance with Dress Code.
- A follow-up letter will be posted home as a further reminder of the school’s Dress Code.
- Year 7 to Year 12 students jeopardise their Good Standing as a result of non-compliance with the Dress Code.
Hair
Students (girls and boys) must ensure that their hair does not create a health or safety risk. We recommend that long hair be ‘tied back’ as a preventative measure in avoiding/containing the spread of head lice and to prevent accidents occurring in high risk areas (eg. Physical Education, Science, Design and Technology, Art etc).
Hats
The Kindergarten to Year 6 section of the school follows a No Hat, No Shoes = No Play policy. This policy is operative throughout the year. We encourage students to wear ‘bucket’ or broad brimmed hats. We encourage secondary students to be ‘sun-smart’ and wear a ‘bucket’ or broad brimmed hat.
Footwear
Kindergarten to Year 6 students may wear approved sandals or closed in footwear. Sandals must be secured over and around the foot. Bare feet and thongs are not Dress Code options. All footwear must be flat soled so that it is suitable for wearing during physical activities.
Students from Year 7 to Year 12 are to wear closed in shoes. This is to ensure their safety and health around the school. If secondary students do not have access to appropriate footwear they may be provided with a pair of school shoes so they can participate in practical subjects such as Science, Design and Technology, Art and Home Economics.
