East Kimberley College School Board

All public schools in Western Australia are encouraged to have a School Board. These boards are formally established and play a vital role in setting the strategic direction of the school, within the guidelines provided by the Department of Education. By doing so, School Boards help shape the quality of education provided to students.

The Role of the School Board

The School Board participates in:

  • Establishing and reviewing the school’s objectives, priorities and overall policy direction

  • Planning financial arrangements to support these objectives and priorities

  • Evaluating the school’s performance in achieving them

  • Developing codes of conduct for students

  • Determining the student dress code, in consultation with students, parents and staff

  • Promoting the school within the community

The School Board also approves:

  • Charges and contributions for materials, services and facilities

  • Extra-cost optional components of educational programs

  • Items students are required to provide for personal use in educational programs

  • Agreements or arrangements for advertising and sponsorship relating to the school

The School Board acts as a key decision-making body, representing the broader school community in planning and policy development. Its involvement helps ensure the school’s direction aligns with the needs and values of its students, staff and families.
