East Kimberley College was established on its present site in 1964 as the Kununurra High School, after moving from the Kimberley Research Station, now the Frank Wise Institute. The school opened its doors to students on the 17 February, 1964 and there were 68 students enrolled in Years 1 to 7, with 4 teachers. On 16 May, 1964 the Kununurra High School was officially opened by Mr Lewis, WA Minister for Education. In the early 1970’s the school changed it’s name to Kununurra District High School to reflect students to Year 10 being able to come to the school. On 22 July, 2019 the school’s name changed to East Kimberley College to reflect students attending from Kindergarten to Year 12.
